Reflection of Adventure Week Term 4

Last week we had adventure week.each day got to do something new and fun.
I enjoyed all the activities especially jelly park on the Thursday.It was expensive but fun i went on the hydro slides i like the twisty one the best because it had really sudden turns,i once hit my head going around a unexpected corner.I went on with four people at a time me Alex,Lucas and Riley it was fun because i went on my belly and the hydro slide had cracks in it so my ribs felt like they were falling apart.It was very sad that Callum my best friend could't go in the pools or the hydro slide because he had a broken wrist.

My second favorite activity was cooking we made biscuits and fudge.
The biscuits were very easy to make we just had to make a simple dough,the dough included sugar flour golden syrup and butter and chocolate chips. Rileys mum came in to help us with the cooking and to supervise.when the chocolate chip biscuits were in the oven we made the fudge it was microwave caramel and white chocolate fudge the recipe was butter sugar golden syrup condensed milk and we put that in the microwave for 10 minutes and every 2 minutes we had to stop the clock and stir the mixture and repeat and then we it was done we put the mix in a grease proof paper tin and put it in over night but we took a risk we decided to not put the white chocolate chip in because we thought it would taste yuck but the next day it wasn't fudge it was more like toffee but it was still yum.

On the tuesday we went to the town trip and went to the museum because we were test subjects for the new exbadiction slice of life.It is about 1000 people

Careers expo

In week 1 term 2 my class did a quiz about strength explorers.
It was a quiz that would determine our strengths. So we could act on them and see how they will help our daily lives. After 75 questions it was over then three to strengths came up. mine was dependability, relating and confidence. After this we had to do another quiz about careers after that was finished we had to choose one of the 110 careers options that would be good for me. My top three were psychiatrist, saw doctor and architect. I choose psychiatrist. Once we had chosen we had to present what we know. I choose to do a slideshow. My slideshow had the money I would earn and what the job is about and what sort of skills you need to become a psychiatrist. In my slideshow, I included picture and links.

Once I had my slide show finished I decided I needed something on paper so I made a word find about related words to psychology. I struggled to make the column the doc then after I made the word find I had to print 20 copies.

The day had come when the year 6s had to come we set the classroom areas. The areas were medical, construction, you tubers section, cook area and the sports area. I was in the medical area. The year 6s came in then there was a big crown going around the classroom my word finds went really quick and lots of people looked at my slideshow. Rotation Task

This morning my class did a rotation task instead of doing our normal work.

For rotation 1 we did te reo that is when we learn the language.We are doing this do build confidence and be able to speak more than one language. we were learning how to hold a conversation in te reo.


For rotation 2 we drama. drama includes singing,dancing,art and acting we were learning how to act and have confidence.We had to write down what skills you need to be an actor we wrote you need to have confidence,easy going  and you need good observation and focus and much more. then we played an acting game.


For rotation 3  We watched a movie called holes for this activity we had to observe because every time the movie said my we had to write down  the word after it said my i got 22 words.

Creating the doc.

For our literacy we had to make something about pollution. At first we had a
doc with all of our work on it. we first  visited a site and got some facts about
marine pollution and put it in our own words. then started putting some links
and pictures in, then we started talking about the ocean cleanup and started
talking about our opinion and how you can make a difference. The easiest
thing was probably finding research about the ocean cleanup. Then put a tun
more facts about marine life THEN WE DECIDED TO PUT EVERYTHING
ON A SLIDE.

Putting our work on a slide

We put most of our work on a slide so we had more room to put our work and
it would be more neat. We started with three slides and had different parts.we
had a page for all the links  We also added in some photos of marine animals
and plastic so we would get better marks. Matthew made the backgrounds
better by putting photos of animals and plastic. It was hard trying to find
websites with different things because it seemed that everything was the
same!.

When we put our work on a slide we put the links from the doc on the slide
because we wanted all of our work on it. We put a better background on the
title and changed the title. We posted it to our blogs and we finished the slide
presentation. I don’t think we will start our prototype for our product this term
because we only have 1 week left.

The Ocean Cleanup Research

1.8 trillion pieces of plastic float at the surface of the Pacific Garbage Patch. The Ocean Cleanup is launching the world’s first  solution to this big problem.they will create a coastline where there are no animals. They will collect the plastic and take it out!.The system consists of a 600-meter-long floater and a 3-meter-deep skirt connected below. While the skirt stops smaller particles from getting out underneath.As the huge skirt creates a downward flow, marine life can safely pass under it.

The system takes advantage of three natural oceanic forces. Wind, waves, and currents.The plastic and the system are being carried by the current.The system moves faster than the plastic, allowing the plastic to be caught as the current adds pressure on the skirt. The system naturally forms a U-shape which enables it to move plastic in its center like a funnel.The drag generated by the skirt also acts as a force allowing the system to move itself when the wind changes direction. And because the system  like the plastic is free floating, it automatically drifts.

The machine has solar powered lights, anti-collision systems, cameras, sensors and satellite antennas. A support vessel comes by to take out the concentrated plastic  like a garbage truck of the ocean.The plastic is then transported to land, recycled, and made into durable products.Once finished, the machine is expected to clean up 50% of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch every 5 years.

Ocean Pollution Research

There is 8.3 metric tons of plastic waste in the ocean and 6.3 billion tons of it became waste and only only 9％ got recycled. 14 Billion pounds of plastic go in the ocean each year so that´s 1.5 million pounds of plastic go in each hour. About 60 - 95 percent of ocean pollution is plastic. Over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine animals are killed each year from plastic pollution. 700 marine species are at risk of extinction because of plastic pollution and food shortages. China is the worst country for plastic pollution because of there huge population and there carelessness of pollution. It can take 40-50 years for a plastic cup to decompose and 300-400 years for a plastic bag to decompose. Any piece of plastic thrown in the ocean can kill up to 1 million marine animals yearly. In 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. In 2025 the plastic pollution is predicted to grow to 400 million tonnes every year.

Main Causes Of Ocean Pollution

The main causes of ocean pollution is sewage,toxic chemicals and nuclear waste. Main causes of plastic pollution is the huge amount of plastic made daily and the amount that gets discarded. Dirty plastics that get thrown into landfill have bad chemicals for the environment. The chemicals sink into the ground and go into the groundwater. The plastic you put in the bin everyday ends up in landfill. When plastic is getting transported it can get blown away and end up in drains and end up in rivers that lead to the ocean.

Milos Reflection

we have been making a slideshow about airplanes and the
Christchurch airport. We have done 10 facts about airplanes
and Christchurch Airport. We have also done the landing and
takeoff times of the big airplanes that go to Christchurch Airport.
We have also put a link on the slideshow to flightradar 24.

Our next steps are to plan a trip to Christchurch Airport and
add more information to our slide. We want to find out more
about airplanes and Christchurch Airport.

We have learnt how many airplanes are in the sky a once . the
biggest passenger plane is the A380  

. the biggest plane is the Antonov AN 225
